SEIU2015 Leadership Empowerment Department is dedicated to supporting our team’s growth and professional development. We do this by providing staff with valuable training programs, tools and best practices that will empower them to become leaders.

Our Vision

Leadership Empowerment’s vision is to create a comprehensive Leadership Empowerment System grounded in a culture of learning for our members and staff. Our primary goal is to develop a talented team of leaders committed to championing the dismantling of structural racism and oppressive structures. To that end, we are driven to deliver programs that promote inclusion and fulfill the need for economic and social equity in all of our communities. We are also dedicated to building an organizational culture that continuously builds leadership capacity among member and staff. Through this work, we intend to embed leadership empowerment and development in all the work we do as an organization. Through our work, we value the importance of promoting a system based on development as well as sharing the skills and talents needed to be successful in accomplishing our union’s goals and strategic priorities.

In order to build capacity and shift our culture toward Leadership Empowerment, we have developed a robust infrastructure built on a foundation of these six tenets:

People

Members & Staff

Every program is driven by members and/or staff. Programs are built based upon the specific needs of its intended audience. To ensure that our programs are useful and empowering, we look to our members and staff to provide direction and focus to everything we do.

Evaluation

Tracking the Leadership Journey

Our robust evaluation and assessment process is our primary way of analyzing whether or not our systems are achieving their intended goals. Debriefings and evaluations are how we model accountability and evolve our programs to ensure every employee’s needs and expectations are being met.

Culture

Leadership is at Our Core

Leadership Empowerment’s mission is to build SEIU2015’s overall culture as one that is based on a set of empowering attitudes, values, goals, and practices. With a focus on education, empowerment, leadership, equity, innovation and solidifying ourselves as an anti-racist organization, these values manifest in every program that we are a part of.

Policy & Procedures

How We Promote This System

In addition to the various programs that we provide, we have also created a system for tracking each employees learning history as well as their on-going development within our various programs, including: trainings, retreats, campaigns, HR trainings, anti-racist programs, justice agenda programming, and many others. In addition, staff may also track outside educational program that they’ve attended, like conferences, summits, online trainings, etc. We also value the importance of digesting any feedback you have for us through our robust evaluation process which is focused on informing how we may better serve your specific needs in the future.

Practices

How Leadership is Grown

We view leadership as a journey filled with opportunities to develop our skills and talents through the work we do. Our programs provide a variety of formats and modalities designed to create an accessible learning culture. We achieve this through intentional analysis, planning and evaluation. Our programs take several different forms, including large and small trainings, workshops, coaching, mentoring, committees, meetings, webinars and tele-meetings.

Tools

How Leadership is Supported

We support on-going leadership by making our various program elements easily accessible and available upon demand. Through our Resource Library, staff has unlimited access to everything they need to lead. Program templates, training frameworks, assessment tools, evaluations, facilitating guides, handouts and various other resources are only a few clicks away.

Additional educational tools, like Pryor Online Trainings and archival versions of previous training webinars are also available to any member of staff searching for educational tools.
